The bank's checking accounts can offer good perks, such as interest, checking account bonuses, overdraft protection, and large ATM networks, but they come with monthly service fees that keep them from being great options for everyone.

If you're hoping to open a bank account for a minor, this bank has options for you. It has three specialty bank accounts for children and young adults, each focused on a specific age range. The Chase First Banking℠ Account targets the youngest age range. This checking account for kids is intended for children ages six to 12, although any child between six and 17 years old can have one.
To open the account, you'll need to be an adult who already has a personal checking account with the bank. As the parent, you'll have primary control of the account. You're the only one who can fund the account through your linked checking account, and you can set limits on how much your child can spend, along with other parental control features.
The account charges no monthly service fee.
While the account comes with a debit card for kids, you can't use peer-to-peer transaction services such as Zelle or Venmo with this account. If you expect your child will need to use these services, they might prefer its other student checking accounts.

Chase Checking Key Features and Benefits
Chase Checking National Branch and ATM Presence
One of the advantages of banking with this bank is that you have access to a robust branch and ATM presence. The bank has over 4,700 locations and over 15,000 ATMs. It also has locations in all lower 48 states.
Chase Checking Minimum Opening Deposits
You don't need any money to open a checking account with this bank. However, you must keep a minimum balance to waive the monthly fee on most accounts.
Chase Checking Fees and Charges
The bank only offers accounts with no monthly service fee for children or students. If you're an adult, you'll probably need to meet certain monthly requirements if you do not want to pay bank maintenance fees.
Chase Secure Banking℠ and Chase Total Checking® are the bank's everyday banking options. These accounts have the lowest monthly service fees and offer the most lenient requirements for waiving these fees.
You still might consider one of its higher-tier checking accounts if you regularly maintain a high account balance or meet one of the other requirements for waiving monthly service fees.
It charges a $34 overdraft fee, up to three times daily, for transactions that overdraw your checking balance by more than $50. There are ways to avoid this fee, though.
Chase Secure Banking℠ does not charge overdraft fees; it declines transactions that would cause a negative checking balance. Chase Sapphire℠ Banking and Chase Private Client Checking℠ waive the first 4 overdrafts during the current and previous 12 statement periods.
Another option is to sign up for overdraft protection and link a Chase savings account. When you make a transaction that would result in a negative balance, money from your savings account will be transferred to restore your checking balance. There are no fees for overdraft protection transfers.
With Chase Overdraft Assist, you can also avoid overdraft fees by restoring your checking balance by the end of the next business day (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT). Your overdrawn amount must be $50 or less to restore your account.
This is one of the best banks for avoiding ATM fees. It has a $3 to $5 out-of-network ATM fee. However, several checking accounts waive or do not charge ATM fees.
Chase Premier Plus Checking℠ won't charge ATM fees at out-of-network ATMs for up to four times per statement period. Chase Sapphire℠ Banking and Chase Private Client Checking℠ won't charge fees at out-of-network ATMs.

Chase Customer Service
Customer support is available at branches or by phone. The bank also has an FAQ section with videos to help address questions about personal banking, business banking, credit cards, online banking, mobile banking, home lending, and investments.
Customer service hours may vary depending on the location. Generally, branches are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in your respective time zone and Saturday mornings. The bank offers 24/7 customer service for most of its banking products over the phone.
Chase Checking Account Alternatives
Chase Checking vs. Wells Fargo Checking
Neither bank offers checking accounts without monthly bank maintenance fees. The monthly services on checking accounts at both banks are similar, and you'll need to meet certain requirements each month for the fee to be waived.
It's slightly easier to waive monthly service fees on the Wells Fargo Everyday Checking Account, but your choice may ultimately come down to which account features stand out the most to you.
Chase Checking vs. Bank of America Checking
Chase is a better option for a checking account with a low minimum opening deposit. Its checking accounts don't have a minimum opening deposit, while Bank of America checking accounts range from $25 to $100.
Chase offers a greater variety of bonuses right now, and Chase Total Checking® stands out among new bank account bonuses because of its relatively straightforward requirements. You can earn a $300 bonus when you open an account and make direct deposits totaling $500 or more within 90 days of coupon enrollment (offer expires on 7/16/2025).
It could be a toss-up between the two banks if you want to avoid monthly service fees on a checking account. Both banks have similar monthly service fees for checking accounts. Your choice may ultimately depend on which type of checking account you want and whether you qualify to avoid the monthly service fee.
If you're not set on banking with a traditional brick-and-mortar bank, online banks could be more suitable for finding low-fee checking accounts. The best bank for checking accounts have options with no monthly service fees and no overdraft fees.
Chase Checking Account Bonuses
Bank account bonuses are one of the most notable benefits for this bank. It has checking account bonuses for Chase Total Checking®, Chase Secure Banking℠, Chase College Checking℠, and Chase Private Client Checking℠. The Chase bank promotions are generally for new checking account customers.
Chase Private Client Checking℠ has the highest bank account bonus at the bank. You can get up to a $3,000 bonus when you open a new Chase Private Client Checking℠ account with qualifying activities (offer expires 7/16/2025). Chase Total Checking® or Chase Secure Banking℠could be worth exploring if you're searching for a checking account bonus with more lenient requirements, and Chase College Checking℠ could be a good option for a bonus if you're currently enrolled in a qualifying institution.
Opening a Chase Checking Account
You can apply for a checking account online or at a branch. If you're applying online, you must provide a Social Security number and driver's license or state ID.
Two forms of ID are usually required to open a checking account with the bank. A driver's license or passport is considered an acceptable form of ID for an adult. Minors opening a teen checking account with their parent may use a birth certificate and student ID with a photo.
You'll also share general information about yourself, like full name, address, and date of birth. The bank's checking accounts do not require a minimum opening deposit.
