Closely-followed hedge fund manager John Paulson just purchased one of the most expensive homes ever listed in the United States.
The Hala Ranch, a 95-acre estate in Aspen, Colorado, was listed for $135 million, but snapped up by the billionaire hedge fund titan for $49 million, according CNBC's Robert Frank.
Hala (Arabic for "welcome") was sold by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, a former ambassador to the U.S. who built the massive ski chalet in 1991.
Paulson, who famously bet against the subprime housing market in 2007, had a disastrous year in 2011 with some of his funds falling 30 to 50%. His Advantage Funds are said to be in the red again this year.
Anyway, here are some of the amazing amenities Paulson has to look forward to in Aspen. [via The Denver Post's Al Lewis].
- The house is larger than the White House with 56,000 square feet of living space.
- It has 15 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms.
- Prince Bandar's master bedroom was hidden behind a secret door.
- Speaking of bathrooms, Hala Ranch has its own sewage treatment plant on site.
- The ranch is equipped with an enormous garage and it has its own mechanical shop, car wash and gas pumps.
- There's a commercial kitchen in the home that can prepare hundreds of meals a day.
- The massive estate has its own cross-country skiing trails and an equestrian cross-country course.
- The landscape includes reflection pools, sculpture gardens and fishing ponds.
- Other sick features include heated horse stables, an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, a beauty parlor, exercise room, tennis court, racquetball court and steam room.
