J.K. Rowling is 'shocked and devastated' over Alan Rickman's death

Alan Rickman died on January 14 at age 69. Among the British actor's many roles was his rendition of the iconic "Harry Potter" villainous good-guy Severus Snape.

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling expressed her sentiments on Twitter. 

Many of the "Harry Potter" cast are taking to social media to remember the late actor.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry himself, wrote a long message on Google+.

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, kept it short and sweet on Facebook.

James and Oliver Phelps, who played the Weasley twins, took to Twitter.

Rickman's fans and followers have also expressed their grief on Twitter using gifs and pictures from the "Harry Potter" films.
