Employees labelled as underperformers go through a multistep coaching process that's opaque and often unrealistic, dozens of employees who spoke with Insider said.
The program has several parts, including an initial "Focus" section, followed by "Pivot," and possibly an internal Amazon jury that decides the employee's fate.
