The Kindle Paperwhite is our favorite e-reader. It's the most affordable waterproof Kindle available and offers incredibly smooth performance. But while part of the Paperwhite's appeal is its slim design, its thin build makes it vulnerable to damage. That's why we've rounded up the best Kindle Paperwhite cases to protect your e-reader.

No matter how you use your Paperwhite, there's a case to fit your reading style. The official Amazon case is a reliable option that comes in three colors and has a foldable fabric cover. If you want a more budget-friendly model, check out this Fintie Slimshell Case, which comes in tons of different patterns and is often on sale for as little as $10.

Below, we've gathered seven of the best Kindle Paperwhite cases available now. Most of them feature a sleep cover that you can open and close like a book. The list includes a variety of types for every reader, whether you prioritize protection, simplicity, or a cute design.

Frequently asked questions

What should I consider when buying a Kindle Paperwhite case?

Many options are vying for your attention when shopping for a Kindle Paperwhite case, so you'll want to consider your priorities when choosing the right one for you. Here are a few questions worth asking before adding a case to your cart:

  • Is it waterproof or water-resistant?
  • Is it bulky?
  • Does it have a cover that automatically puts the Kindle to sleep?
  • Does it come with a stand or handle?
  • What colors or designs is it available in?

Do I need a case for my Kindle Paperwhite?

The Kindle Paperwhite is our pick for the best Kindle, thanks to its snappy performance, handy features, and waterproof design. But even the best e-readers are susceptible to damage. Although it has a relatively durable build, a case is definitely handy for protecting your Kindle Paperwhite from scratches and drops. You should especially consider investing in one if you bring your Kindle with you during commutes or trips.

Check out our Kindle Paperwhite review for more details on the e-reader's build, design, and performance.

Do all Kindle models use the same size case?

No, Kindle Paperwhites require a different case than the rest of the Kindle lineup. Likewise, cases for previous-generation Kindle Paperwhite models will not fit the latest Kindle Paperwhite. All of the above recommendations are for the 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition released in 2021; if yours is the 2018 version or earlier, you'll need to specify that in your case search.

Do I need a Kindle Paperwhite case with a cover?

If protecting your Kindle is your top priority, you'll want to opt for a case with a front cover. Though it's bulkier than options without one, the extra flap keeps your screen from getting scratched while in your bag or backpack, and it usually comes with extra features like automatic sleep or a stand.

Is Amazon releasing a new Kindle Paperwhite?

The current 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite was released in 2021. Historically, Amazon has launched new Paperwhite models every three years or so. This could point to some kind of next-gen option launching this year or in 2025, but Amazon has not officially announced plans to release a new model.
