Comfort
Brains though that the Big Fig Classic provides a firm sleep experience, which he rated a rate 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Brains, a 6-foot-tall, 230-pound side sleeper who usually gravitates toward plusher surfaces, found the firmness level notably higher than average.
The empirical data from Brains' sleep tracker revealed he consistently achieved a sleep score of 71 out of 100, significantly outperforming his typical average of 63 on other beds. This improvement suggests that despite his preference for softer mattresses, the Big Fig effectively promotes quality sleep.
Searles, a 5-foot-7, 350-pound sleeper, also found that the mattress was firmer than average — rating it an 8 out of 10. Given the firmness, she was most comfortable sleeping on her stomach, and thought that side sleeping was a little uncomfortable. Even as a plus-size person, she found that the mattress was firmer than her typical preference.
The bed excels for stomach and back sleeping, where the firm support promotes optimal spinal alignment. Regardless of position, the pressure relief remained consistently effective — neither Brains nor Searles experienced morning soreness, a testament to the bed's well-executed support system.
Heat dissipation
The Big Fig Mattress shows respectable but not exceptional heat regulation based on our objective temperature testing. Using a laser thermometer, we conducted a three-point measurement sequence: baseline mattress surface temperature, an immediate post-use reading after a minimum one-hour rest period on the mattress, and a dissipation measurement two minutes later.
When Searles tested heat dissipation, the mattress only climbed to 81.9 degrees before dropping to 76.8 degrees, almost back to the original level, after two minutes. Brains recorded warmer results, but also observed a 13.1-degree reduction, higher than the average 12 degrees.
This heat dissipation rate likely stems from the mattress's cooling features, including the perforated gel-infused latex foam layer and ThermoGel-treated cover. While these components didn't necessarily prevent initial heat buildup, they facilitated thermal release. For hot sleepers, this translates to a sleep surface that, while not revolutionary in its cooling properties, supplies reliable temperature management that outperforms most beds.
Edge support
Based on our edge support testing, the Big Fig Mattress has exceptional perimeter stability — a critical feature for sleepers who want to maximize their mattress sleep area and have simple entry and exit from the bed. Our evaluation combines both assessing the edge sinkage while sitting on the sides and forcing myself to roll off the bed.
The results were impressive. When Brains sat on the edge it compressed only 2.5 inches, while Searles sank just an inch. This minimal compression can be attributed to the high-density edge foam, which can supply more structural integrity. To put this in perspective, many hybrid mattresses we've tested show compression of 3 to 4 inches under similar conditions.
The roll-off test revealed equally compelling results. Brains stayed stable well past a 45-degree angle before rolling off the bed — an outstanding performance that places the Big Fig among the best for edge support. Searles usually shares a king bed with her boyfriend, so she slept closer to the edge than usual when testing the queen-size Big Fig Classic. Even so, she always felt supported while sleeping near the edge.

We measured the Big Fig Mattress's motion isolation by using a vibrometer. By measuring the vibration transfer from a 15-pound bowling ball impact across the mattress surface, I can quantify how effectively the mattress dampens movement — a crucial consideration for couples sharing a sleep space.
The Big Fig registered a 7.1 on the vibrometer, which is better than the average measurement across our mattress testing. This superior motion dampening can be attributed to the sophisticated interaction between the layers of high-density foam and the individually wrapped coils. Searles also observed that the weight bounced significantly, so most of the movement was absorbed the movement, effectively containing disturbances.
Combined with the bed's unparalleled edge support, this motion isolation performance positions the Big Fig as an outstanding choice for couples.
