Cruise has become one of the autonomous-vehicle industry's leaders and, based on salary data the General Motors-owned company shared with the US government, its pay is competitive with big-name rivals like Waymo and Aurora Innovation.

The US Office of Foreign Labor Certification requires companies to disclose compensation for permanent and temporary employees from outside the US to ensure the firms aren't paying them less than their peers' average wage. The data Business Insider analyzed is from 2020, and represents a range among some of the employees included in Cruise's disclosures.

Cruise did not respond to a request for comment.
