18-year-old singer Billie Eilish revealed in a new interview that she was worried about having a public breakdown while on tour in 2019.
"Last year, when I was at my lowest point during the tour in Europe, I was worried I was going to have a breakdown and shave my head," the "Bad Guy" singer told Vogue.
Eilish was referencing Britney Spears' notorious and very public breakdown in 2007, which saw the pop star shave her head in front of dozens of photographers and quickly become fodder for tabloids. Eilish revealed that as a child, she often wondered about the effects of pop stardom on young singers.
"As a fan growing up, I was always like, What the f--- is wrong with them? All the scandals. The Britney moment. You grow up thinking they're pretty and they're skinny; why would they f--- it up?" the Grammy winner said in the interview.
"But the bigger I get, the more I'm like, 'Oh, my God, of course they had to do that,'" Eilish said. "In my dark places I've worried that I was going to become the stereotype that everybody thinks every young artist becomes, because how can they not?"
Eilish has been outspoken about her struggles with depression and mental illness in the past, telling Gayle King of her childhood late last year, " I was so unhappy, and I was so joyless. I genuinely didn't think I would make it to 17."
Luckily, the young singer revealed in her interview with Vogue that she's focusing more on taking care of her mental health, and is even trying to help fans who might be struggling, too.
