That was short lived!
TechCrunch reporter Mike Butcher said Apple was in advanced negotiations to buy mapping upstart Waze for $500 million to $750 million.
Now, TechCrunch contributor MG Siegler says it's not happening.
Siegler reports "multiple sources close to the situation" tell him nothing is happening between Apple and Waze, deal-wise. Why trust Siegler over Butcher? Siegler is much closer to Apple than Butcher. And he's reporting with much more certainty.
CNET also reports that Apple's interest in Waze is "fabricated."
So, that's that, folks. Waze will remain an independent company and Apple will have to figure out how to fix Apple Maps on its own.
